Evoking the memory of the 4-3 defeat a few years back when we were 3 up at half time and against a ten man City makes tonight all the more sweeter. Its a reminder that however bad things have been this season, Spurs in general feel light years away from the dross of the Hoddle and (transitionary) Pleat era.
But enough with dwelling on the past, because tonight was impressive. Two clean sheets in a row, Kaboul putting in a performance worthy of the amount we paid for him, becoming vaguely reacquainted with the feeling of confidence I used to have from from the presence of Robbo in goal and not being tempted at any stage to go to Betfair and put money on the draw. Props to you Senor Ramos.
But what/who really stood out for me was Steed Malbranque. He was immense: the second goal just topping off his magnificent performance in general. What makes it even sweeter is that as recently as the beginning of the season, I dismissed Malbranque as a squad player. A nice cheap pickup with a short shelf life, until we get someone better. To put it another way: another Danny Murphy.
I’m happy to concede that I was mistaken. Malbranque was our best player tonight and has probably been our best player so far this season….so heres you Steeeed.
I’m probably a little over the top now. It was only the quarter final of the league cup…..but fuck it…..come on you Spurs!
